About Me:

My name is Luke Boelitz. I was born on September 21, 1989 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. According to my birth certificate, I weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces on delivery.

Since then I've attended a number of wonderful schools, interned for public radio, worked in South Africa for the Mail and Guardian, and built boats at Stillwater Design.

Now I live in Bushwick and work as an Associate Producer at Reel Peak Films.

Public Radio:

While at Tufts University I interned for WGBH and WBUR. At both stations I worked primarily as a web producer: following breaking news, transcribing tape, rewriting radio scripts for the web, and working with custom Wordpress backends to update the stations’ websites.

I was also able to get out into the field and have my first experiences as a reporter and photographer. I pitched my own local stories, covered the Occupy Boston movement and stuck my camera in Mitt Romney’s face during the 2012 Republican primaries in New Hampshire.

South Africa:

In spring of 2012, after completing my coursework at Tufts, I moved to Johannesburg and worked as a photo intern at the Mail and Guardian. I learned my way around the city and began covering ANC events, taking portraits and rushing to cover breaking news, like the Marikana massacre. My personal projects saw me fall in with a lion tamer and photograph pedestrian commuters in Johannesburg.

At the end of my internship, against the advice of many, I rode my 1983 Vespa scooter 1700km across the northern part of the country and down the west coast to Cape Town, documenting what I saw along the way.
